If you are looking for China to be held accountable for worldwide death and trillions in economic losses, look no further than the World Trade Organization – the entity that created the super power, according to John Fund on Newsmax TV.
"Asking China for reparations and getting them are two different things," Fund, National Review Online editor, told "Saturday Report." "Something that is more likely is that the World Trade Organization that ushered China into the modern world economy, the World Trade Organization has rules.
"They say that you cannot steal intellectual property, you cannot lie and cheat and ever get contracts, and must be transparent in economic and political activities with regard to natural disasters."
The U.S. can press China for transparence and seek retribution by pressing the WTO to enforce its existing rules amid Chinese malfeasance, Fund told host Grant Stinchfield.
"If we threaten China's membership in the World Trade Organization, that, I think, will get their attention," Fund concluded. "And that's something we can do unilaterally, in coalition with some of our allies."
Economist Stephen Moore went even further to Stinchfield, pushing for sanctions if not withholding payment of U.S. debt held by China in the form of bonds.
The global coronavirus pandemic has killed over 156,864 people across the world and cost economies trillions of dollars.
"We're going to rethink our whole strategy with respect to China," Moore concluded. "They have shown themselves not to be, in emergency situations, a reliable supplier to the United States. There's a lot of reconsideration.
"I've talked to many CEOs, who are scratching their heads now, 'Maybe China isn't such a valuable part of supply chain after all.' After this is all said and done, I think you're going to see a total reconsideration of the relationship with China."
