Toronto Sun's Peat: Mayor Rob Ford Has Always Been a 'Character'

By    |   Monday, 18 November 2013 06:40 PM EST

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, who has admitted smoking crack and used lurid sexual slang to deny having an affair, has always been a boisterous character, but now seems to be losing it, according to Don Peat, City Hall bureau chief for the Toronto Sun.

"This is pretty much how he acts normally. He's a bombastic character, he always has been," Peat told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

Story continues below video.

"But when he was first elected mayor back in 2010, he was kind of in a bubble where we didn't really see that kind of bombastic behavior . . . He kind of kept his behavior in check.

"With all the stress of this ongoing crack scandal, you're starting to see the real Rob Ford."

The Toronto City Council is in the process of stripping Ford, who refuses to resign, of all his political power — a move Ford is vowing to fight.

"He compared what they're doing to the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq back during the first Gulf War. He promised council that he'll get retribution in the next election," Peat said.
