Mike Rogers: Shut Down Obamacare Site to Fix Security

By    |   Tuesday, 10 December 2013 09:54 AM EST

Federal officials should shut down the Obamacare website to address security issues, Rep. Mike Rogers said Tuesday.

"They should shut the site down, get it functioning, and then test it. Vet it. Stress test that system security-wise so that we can make sure that . . . you can eliminate all the vulnerabilities that are possible in a site that is this bad and this confusing," the Michigan Republican told "Fox & Friends."

However, Rogers believed the Obama administration would place politics above security. Rogers maintained the problem cuts across party lines.

"I don't care if you're a Republican or a Democrat. If you're on the website, your information is exposed in a way that you wouldn't be exposed in the private sector," he said. "We ought to fix that. They should fix it. And, they should take ownership to fix it."

Rogers is a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which has held numerous hearings to investigate issues surrounding Obamacare. He said Health and Human Secretary Kathleen Sebelius was set to return Wednesday to provide further testimony to the committee on issues about the healthcare law.

People must input sensitive personal information on the Obamacare website to enroll in the healthcare program. Rogers said the administration appeared to be "more concerned about the start date than they were the security of the site."

Rogers said security concerns addressed in Congress remain unanswered by HHS. He said the administration doesn't have a "basic understanding of what the minimum industry standards."

"The scary part about this is they really haven't made the security adjustments, even after we have pointed them out. You have real vulnerabilities on this system. And, it's causing real problems today," he said.

"They still have not gotten it up to any industry standard — meaning, your information is exposed."
