Hillary Clinton is being "clever'' in calling out the 2008 Obama presidential campaign for being sexist, says veteran Republican strategist Ron Christie.
In her just-published memoir,
"Hard Choices," Clinton says she turned down the Obama campaign's request to attack Sarah Palin, who was running for vice president.
"I'm actually surprised that she came out and said this. The Obama White House has been tinged with this Old Boys Network, that the president doesn't surround himself with very senior women,'' Christie, now a Daily Beast columnist, told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on
Newsmax TV.
"We've had a number of books that have come out that have said this," he said Tuesday. "So, I'm actually surprised she did it. That's her clever way of trying to distance herself a little bit from the Obama White House."
In the book, Clinton explains how she questioned the proposal to rip Palin.
"I said, 'For what? For being a woman? No, let's wait until we know where she stands. I don't know anything about her. Do you know anything about her?'" Clinton says she told the Obama campaign.

In response to Clinton's revelation, Palin tweeted: "Look who fired the 1st shot on the real 'war on women. Hint: it wasn't the GOP. See this excerpt from Hillary's book."
Rick Ungar, co-host of SiriusXM's "Steele & Ungar'' radio show, said Clinton should be complemented for defending Palin, and accused Christie of turning the conversation to a negative about Obama.
He said to Christie and host Steve Malzberg: "Let me hear you guys say that Hillary did the right thing by revolting against the sexism and standing up for Sarah Palin.''
