Ex-Navy SEAL: Administration Too Chatty About Special Ops

By    |   Tuesday, 08 October 2013 05:23 PM EDT

The government is endangering the lives of Navy SEALs and their families by releasing too much information about their military operations, former SEAL Scott Taylor says.

"There's no reason that you should know what specific unit was on a specific operation, whether it was in Somalia or Libya or anywhere else for that matter, because all they continue to do is put a potential target on folks," Taylor told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

Story continues below video.

"It's not hard to put two and two together and figure out where these folks live or where their families live or where their kids go to school," he said Tuesday. "So the more that we talk about it, the more that we endanger lives, and it's a shame, basically."

A Navy SEAL mission in Somalia was recently derailed when children were used as human shields by the enemy, a fact that was disclosed to the public.

"We've been preaching about this for several years now with the Obama administration, with their consistent release of national security secrets and tactics," said Taylor, president of the Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund.

"And you don't have to be a rocket scientist to realize ... If I know exactly what my opponents are going to do, then I'm going to act in anticipation of what they're going to do," he said.
