A short while ago, we covered ricin attacks on a number of administration and conservative officials.

Today, only weeks ahead of the midterm elections, we saw six separate pipe bomb attacks in coordinated events across the east coast.

The pipe bombs sent by mail targeted George Soros and Hillary Clinton in Chappaqua, NY - as well as a number of democrats and former President Obama (). One package targeted at Rep. Walters was intercepted at the House mail facility.

A pipe bomb targeted CNN — at Columbus Circle, in New York City — with a suspicious white powder was discovered and disposed of by the NYPD in New York City.

The white powder was sent for testing and results are still pending.

Following the attacks — the NYPD has doubled security at all major entry points to the city, which is on high alert.

While the attackers and their motive is still unknown – the timing of the attacks and the intended victims raises a number of questions. Additionally, as the bombs were both mailed and hand-delivered there is a concern that these attacks could be attributed to an extremist group — either domestic or foreign.

Wired.com magazine also pointed out that the bomb scares are a perfect misinformation tool as evidenced by social media conversations online.

Tom Sauer of the MacArthur Group sagely pointed out that we should ask ourselves what are the motives of the bomber and who really benefits?

Lastly, When asking New Yorkers about the attacks, there seemed to be a general consensus that was rather well articulated by one person we spoke with, Molly C. Braswell, executive director of bipartisan advocacy group Progress for Change said, "Whoever tries to perpetuate violence for political reasons is a terrorist."
