The "dog days of summer" are winding down, leaving kids to enjoy the last care-free pool days before they – and their parents – must perform that dreaded end-of-summer ritual: back-to-school shopping.

But even with the countdown to school and fall now firmly on the horizon, August still offers some final summer fun for kids and adults alike before the cooler autumn winds blow in.
