The 35 House Republicans who bucked party leaders and voted with Democrats on Wednesday to establish a 9/11-style commission for the Jan. 6 Capitol breach brought the fault lines of the party into stark relief.

Though anti-Trump and establishment Republicans have previously emerged to challenge former President Donald Trump’s words and deeds, they were limited in number and often retired or were voted out of office soon after, such as former Sens. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., and Bob Corker, R-Tenn.
