Dr. Anthony Fauci’s declaration Sunday that it is “possible” although “unlikely” that over 1.5 million Americans could die from COVID-19 signals that, without an effective public response, the chaos in Italy could be a preview of things to come in the United States.

The remarks of Dr. Fauci, the infectious disease chief of the National Institutes of Health, came on ABC’s "This Week" and NBC’s "Meet the Press" on Sunday.
