Trump Free to Seize Control of D.C. Police, Expert Says

President Trump is fully empowered to legally assume direct control of the Washington, D.C., police force if necessary to quell riots there, according to a leading constitutional scholar.

Jonathan Turley, the George Washington University Law School professor who opposed House Democrats’ rush to impeach Trump earlier this year, says D.C.’s legal code gives Trump the authority to temporarily direct the city’s police force.
