Study: Coronavirus Attacks the Immune System Like HIV

Researchers say the coronavirus uses a double-pronged assault on the body, not only attacking delicate lung tissue but also targeting the body’s immune system in a manner not unlike that of the HIV virus that causes AIDS.

The findings were published in the journal Cellular & Molecular Immunology. The study examined how the virus interacts with T cells, a key part of the human immune-response mechanism.
