The growing number of attacks on American troops and U.S. allies by Iran-directed proxy groups is heightening the risk for a broader war in the turbulent Middle East, experts warn.

While the U.S. has been engaged in a "de facto state of war" with Tehran for years, analysts fear a tipping point could soon be hit. Ever since Hamas' deadly Oct. 7 assault on Israel, Iran has played a pivotal role in the regional turmoil.
