Democrats currently enjoy a razor-thin majority in the U.S. Senate, but with nearly a third of the upper chamber’s seats subject to elections next year, Republicans are focused on a handful of contests in which they need to flip seats to allow the GOP to retake control in 2024.
Republicans currently hold 49 seats to Democrats’ 48, although the three independents in the Senate caucus with the Democratic Party, giving it control.
