Two top virologists insist the oral polio vaccine first introduced in the 1950s is a powerful weapon that could stop the coronavirus pandemic in its tracks and help reopen the economy.

Dr. Konstantin Chumakov of the FDA’s Office of Vaccines Research and Review, and Dr. Robert Gallo, co-founder of the Global Virus Network, state in USA Today that the oral polio vaccine (OPV) could serve as an effective stop-gap until a vaccine can be introduced that specifically targets the coronavirus.
