The last time Florida had a Democratic governor was in 1999. Gasoline was $1.22 a gallon, the Dow was hovering around 14,400, and Regis Philbin was asking people on Who Wants to be a Millionaire: “Is that your final answer?”

Yes, a long time ago. Flash forward to today, and it appears Republican Ron DeSantis will have to mount a powerful last-minute push if he hopes to extend the GOP’s grip on the Sunshine State.
