The U.S. steel and aluminum industries have been so decimated by cheap imports that it now poses a direct threat to America's national security interests, according to the Pentagon and the Department of Commerce.

According to the Commerce Department, 10 U.S. furnaces that produce molten steel have shuttered their doors since 2000. For aluminum, the Aluminum Association reports eight smelters have either closed down or drastically reduced operations since January 2015.
