Like the space race in the 1960s, an urgent competition is now underway to introduce the first successful supersonic jetliner since the Concorde made its final landing in October 2003.
The new designs are expected to begin test flights as early as next year. Analysts say they will be far more advanced than the Concorde, in part thanks to new composite materials.
