America is again announcing: "We choose to go to the moon" – and China and Russia are working toward the same goal. But why?

The moon race in the 1960s was about "new knowledge to be gained and new rights to be won," according to President John F. Kennedy, the man who pushed the U.S. to not only one-up the Soviet Union but prove that American innovation could crush the communist machine on a grand scale.
