The federal government has strategically prepositioned vast stockpiles of medical supplies in secure facilities nationwide to help respond to contagions such as the Wuhan virus outbreak that left 132 dead and over 6,000 ill worldwide as of Wednesday morning.

News of the stockpile, the medical equivalent of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, emerged Tuesday as Department of Health and Human Services officials described their latest responses to the virus that originated in China.
