Three days after former Secretary of State John Kerry would not rule out running for president again, President Donald Trump weighed in and said he would be "lucky" to face Kerry in the 2020 election.

Trump tweeted this Monday afternoon in response to Kerry's 2020 remarks:

"I see that John Kerry, the father of the now terminated Iran deal, is thinking of running for president. I should only be so lucky — although the field that is currently assembling looks really good — for me!"

Kerry was the Democratic nominee for president in the 2004 election but lost to the incumbent, former President George W. Bush, 286 electoral votes to 251.

Kerry later served as secretary of state under former President Barack Obama, from 2013-2017.

He dodged when asked last week whether he would run for president in two years.

"What we need to do is focus on 2018," Kerry said in the pre-taped CBS News interview that aired Sunday. "We are in a moment of crisis for our country. The world is in a moment of crisis.

"I never retreated or retired."
