National security adviser Robert O’Brien is praising acting director of national intelligence Richard Grenell as an experienced “consumer of intelligence,” pushing back at views he’s not up to the top intel job.
In an interview aired Sunday on CBS News’ “Face The Nation,” O’Brien argued the first director of national intelligence, John Negroponte, who was appointed by President George W. Bush, was also, like Grenell, an ambassador to Germany and was confirmed by the Senate.
“He does a have a great intelligence background,” O’Brien insisted.
“He was a consumer of intelligence for 10 years both as a senior official at the U.S. UN in New York and as our ambassador to Germany,” he said.
“As a consumer of intelligence, I think he’s in a great place to do that job,” he added.
