One of President Donald Trump’s top allies has called for a “political bias” review of the cases prosecuted by Preet Bharara, the former U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, as part of a Twitter dispute.
Richard Grenell, the former U.S. ambassador to Germany and acting director of national intelligence, tweeted on Monday: “This biased prosecutor who weaponized his authority for political gain is now attacking conservative gay men who were threaten with violence. It’s all politics for Bharara. He is offended that gays are conservatives. Imagine this guy ever getting power again?! Scary.”
He added, “Every case Bharara did previously should be reviewed for political bias. His agenda was front and center.”
Over the weekend, Bharara sarcastically responded to a tweet from Republican candidate for Congress George Santos complaining about The New York Times reporting that he and his wife attended the Mar-a-Lago New Year’s Eve party.
“’thanks to the @nytimes publishing of my Instagram,’” Bharara tweeted, along with an image of a shocked face. “(I blame the media for my woes after they picked up the press release I sent them).”
