Pro-Life Group Asks ABC to Correct Debate Abortion Claim

By    |   Thursday, 12 September 2024 07:53 PM EDT

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is calling on ABC News to issue a correction following claims made by one of the network's presidential debate moderators Tuesday night that there is no state in the U.S. where it is legal to kill a baby after it is born.

The group sent a letter urging ABC News President Almin Karamehmedovic to issue a "swift correction."

The letter states the claim, made by moderator Linsey Davis, "tragically ignores the reality of babies who survive failed, late-term abortions but are denied basic medical care and left to die."

The group said a correction is an "important first step in acknowledging this fact."

"We also encourage ABC to meet with abortion survivors who are a living testament to the need for born-alive protections," the group wrote.

The letter outlines a series of facts regarding instances when babies died after being born alive following failed abortions. It also points out that nine states, along with the District of Columbia, place no term limit on abortions.

"In Minnesota alone, the state's Department of Health reported eight babies during Gov. Tim Walz's tenure who were born alive after failed abortion attempts were left to die," the letter stated. Walz is Democrat Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate.

The organization's president, Marjorie Dannenfelser, who authored the letter, wrote that as a senator, Harris "voted against protections for babies born alive after failed abortions. And as a member of Congress, her running mate Tim Walz even issued a public apology for 'accidentally' voting for said legislation after he previously voted against it."

Dannenfelser requested an in-person meeting with ABC's team and asked that it include "abortion survivors."

"It is the job of the media to share the truth and expose misinformation where it exists," she wrote. "We ask that you correct the falsehood perpetuated by ABC News during the debate. We also hope you will make time to meet and hear from abortion survivors to get the full story about the impact abortion is having on human life and culture."
