Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., told CNN he believed the allegations of sexual misconduct against Alabama GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore and called on the Republican Party to "disown every aspect of him," The Hill reported Friday.
"This is a bridge too far," he said "The Republican Party should disown every aspect of him."
Kinzinger called upon Moore to step aside and, should he remain in the race and win, he said the Senate should work immediately to oust him.
"I think Roy Moore needs to step aside now, these allegations are disgusting and I believe them," Kinzinger said. "There's no way to defend this. And second, I think the Senate should say that they will refuse to seat him, or, in fact, expel him if he is the senator from Alabama.
"Look, Alabama has the right to pick their senators, but this is beyond the pale, to have this kind of contact with somebody when they were 14 years old. I don't care how long ago it was. He was an adult and there could be more information coming forward. Who knows?" he added.
Moore has vehemently denied recent claims that four decades ago, when he was in his early 30s, he made inappropriate sexual advances against younger women. One accuser said she was 14 years old when the incident took place.
