Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., told MSNBC on Wednesday "if we thought healthcare was tough," then tax reform "is like tough on steroids," according to the Independent Journal Review.
The White House released its plan for tax reform Wednesday, including what Chief Economic Adviser Gary Cohn called "one of the biggest tax cuts" in American history, though officials insist this is a "first draft," according to ABC News.
Kinzinger said House committees like Ways and Means have "been working on this for a really long time, and obviously it changes; it looks different; you have people come in that don't like this or love this provision, and now the White House will have their view of it. The two will get married together at some point. It probably won't look like either of ours in total, but hopefully it will be something to put a little jet fuel on the economy."
He added, "Let's have no doubt that this is a very difficult process to get tax reform. If we thought healthcare was tough, this is like tough on steroids."
The congressman also expressed his frustration with the conservative House Freedom Caucus' behavior during the debate over healthcare.
"The House Freedom Caucus has been talking about regular order, and then all of a sudden, the House Freedom Caucus wants to negotiate directly which is out of that," Kinzinger said. "So, that's frustrating."
