A Republican lawmaker from Illinois who also happens to be a former Air Force pilot doesn't like what he's hearing from Donald Trump about not necessarily supporting NATO allies in times of trouble.
"It's utterly disastrous," Rep. Adam Kinzinger told Politico. "And you have allies right now, I have friends that serve in Parliament in places like Estonia that every day worry about the Russians deciding that this is the time to reannex and take them back.
"And comments like this are not only ill-informed, they're dangerous."
Kinzinger was referencing what Trump told
The New York Times Wednesday, which was that he might not help NATO allies if they were being threatened unless "they fulfill their obligations to us."
Kinzinger, who said Wednesday he was
getting closer to standing behind Trump for president, told Politico his latest remark doesn't make his decision any easier.
"I'm not there yet. I mean, you know, look, it's obviously tremendous pressure on me. I'm not a fan of Hillary Clinton, and I'm not going to vote for her," he said.
"I was closer to saying yes until last night, until this article, and this is something I have to work through on my own time."
