Tax Activist: Repeal Obamacare Taxes in Next Tax Bill

(C-Span)

The Senate healthcare bill reintroduced Thursday does not go far enough to repeal the taxes of Obamacare, and taxes should be repealed in the ensuing tax reform legislation to come later this summer, according to the Americans for Tax Reform.

"All Obamacare taxes should be repealed," ATR President Grover Norquist wrote in a statement Thursday. "The Trump tax reform plan, the House health bill, and the original Senate health bill abolished the Obamacare 3.8% Net Investment Income Tax.

"Given the most recent language leaves some of the taxes in place, it is important for Senate leadership to make it clear that those taxes will be abolished in tax reform this year."

The Senate GOP healthcare plan update keeps the Obamacare taxes levied on the wealthy.

Norquist's statement suggests his tax reform group can concede some to get healthcare passed to help get to further tax cuts in congressional legislation likely to come after.

The Senate GOP is working to get to 50 votes to pass its version of an Obamacare repeal and replacement, and onetime holdout Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, has said he will vote for the updated bill after the changes announced Thursday.
