CNN's Anderson Cooper says he has no plans to vote in this year's presidential election in an effort to maintain his neutrality.
"I don't think I'm gonna vote. I don't think reporters should vote,"
Cooper said Monday on "The Howard Stern Show."
Cooper says he has flip-flopped on the issue over the years, and has voted before.
"A lot of reporters don't vote," Cooper told an incredulous Stern and co-host Robin Quivers. "It's a thing."
"There have been years where I have voted because I thought maybe I should, and then I've gone back and forth on it," Cooper said.
Cooper said he doesn't "want to be influenced one way or the other" when doing his job.
"This might be the most shocking thing I've heard you say," Stern said, while Quivers pointed out that people in some parts of the world don't enjoy the freedom to help pick their leaders.
While he believes in the right to vote, Cooper said, "My role is to ask questions."
He also said he "honestly can't remember" the last time he voted.
When Cooper then asked Stern who he plans to vote for, the radio personality said, "I've always been a Hillary Clinton fan. I think she would make a good president."
He said he has known GOP front-runner Donald Trump for years and is a friend.
"But first of all, I don't even think he wants to be president," he told Cooper. "I think he's shocked. I think it was a goof. He was probably thinking, 'I'll get in and out in a month, and I'll sell some books or something.'"
