Gov. Andrew Cuomo leads "Sex and the City" actress Cynthia Nixon by 35 points among likely voters in New York's governor race, according to the latest Siena College poll.
Further, Cuomo leads Republican candidate Marc Molinaro by 19 points, according to the survey.
The results, according to Siena:
- 61 percent would vote for Cuomo in the Democratic primary
- 26 percent would vote for Nixon
- 56 percent would vote for Cuomo in the general
- 37 percent would vote for Molinaro in the general
Even Nixon leads Molinaro by 11 points, 46 percent to 35 percent, in a survey question about a hypothetical general election matchup, according to Siena.
"Nixon has a lot of catching up to do to make this race competitive. Cuomo is well known and well liked by New York Democrats. Although similar percentages of Democrats view Cuomo and Nixon unfavorably, Cuomo has a significantly larger percentage of Democrats viewing him favorably," Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg wrote.
"There is no gender gap to favor Nixon, as Cuomo leads with men by 31 points and with women by 37 points," Goldberg wrote.
The Democratic primary is Sept. 13.
Prospects are just as bleak for Molinaro, a virtual unknown in most of the state. Cuomo has 25 percent-support from New York Republicans while Molinaro has just 13 percent support among Democrats in the state, according to Siena's survey.
The Siena College poll was conducted June 4-7 among 745 likely 2018 general election voters in New York. It has an overall margin of error of 3.6 percentage points.
