Judge Andrew Napolitano met with President-elect Donald Trump to discuss the current vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court.

"He was interested in a broad range of ideas and attitudes about the type of person who would best fill Justice [Antonin] Scalia's seat," Napolitano, Fox News' senior judicial analyst, told Fox Business Network's Stuart Varney.

Napolitano spent close to an hour with the incoming president, and advised him on how to find candidates with the right "intellectual, ideological, and temperamental qualities."

Napolitano, a stalwart libertarian, supported Ron Paul and his son, Sen. Rand Paul, in their campaigns for president.

According to Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, who will act as Trump's White House chief of staff, said on Wednesday that Trump will reveal his nominee for the court close to his inauguration.

"Obviously, I think that's going to be something that we're going to start after the new year and certainly by the time we get to inauguration, either shortly before or shortly thereafter," Priebus said in on conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt's show. "We'll reveal the name of who our nominee will be."

Priebus mentioned that age is an important factor, and that Trump hopes to find a candidate who can sit on the court for a long time.

"Well, I tend to believe younger is better, too, but I can tell you what the president believes is that the most qualified, best person to serve on the Supreme Court is what's most important," Priebus said. "And so — but certainly longevity's a factor, but it's just a factor. Competence and having the best possible person nominated is what's most important."
