Napolitano to Newsmax: FBI Shouldn't Be in Murdered CEO Case

By    |   Tuesday, 10 December 2024 05:25 PM EST

On Tuesday, retired New Jersey Superior Court Judge Andrew Napolitano called out the FBI on Newsmax, stating that the local NYPD already has a handle on the case involving murdered UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

After speaking to "American Agenda" on Luigi Mangione, the suspect named in the case, about what possible avenues a legal course would take if he is found guilty, Napolitano suggested that the FBI should not be involved and that the NYPD's investigatory prowess is more than adequate.

"And this is an area where Kash Patel will make a difference," Napolitano said, referring to President-elect Donald Trump's pick to run the FBI. "The FBI has nothing to do with this case. The NYPD is the greatest investigative police department on the planet. They have gathered a mountain of evidence."

"Just because he crossed state lines, the FBI" believes it "has to enter" the case. "It's duplicative. It's unnecessary," Napolitano said. "It's a waste of taxpayer dollars."

Responding to a question from on whether the FBI was legally obliged to enter the case, Napolitano said, "I doubt you're familiar with the bitter rivalry between the NYPD and the FBI. I assure you they didn't invite them in. They jumped in.

"Did [Mangione] commit a crime when he crossed the George Washington Bridge in that bus? Yes. Did he commit it again when he crossed the Delaware River in another bus? Yes. It's called interstate flight. To avoid prosecution. It's nothing compared to the charge of murder that he's facing when he gets" to New York.
