Russia is responsible for an attempt to interfere in the U.S. election, according to Sen. Angus King Friday on CNN's "New Day."
"There is no doubt whatsoever that the Russians were behind the effort to interfere with our elections," King, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said.
The independent senator said that Russia's actions are not new. "There is no doubt that this has been a Russian pattern for years," King said, based on information gained from intelligence committee hearings. "One of our witnesses took it back to the '30s."
"To continue to deny that, it just flies in the face of all of the reality," he added.
Trump does not benefit from comments such as calling the investigation a "witch hunt," according to the senator.
"I don't think the president does himself any good by continuing to deny what I think is very straightforwardly established," the senator added. However, he said that any connection to Russia and the Trump campaign had not been made clear.
At the hearings Thursday, Gen. Keith Alexander, former national security agency director, said that he believed Russia meddled in the 2016 elections, CBS News reported.
