Three FBI officials called out in the recent inspector general report for sending anti-Trump messages were on the bureau's Hillary Clinton and Russia investigations.

Two of the officials — agent Peter Strzok and attorney Lisa Page — were outed several months ago. The pair was having an affair and exchanged thousands of messages. Of those, several hundred sent during and after the 2016 presidential campaign were flagged for showing a bias against President Donald Trump.

According to The Washington Times, the third official included in Inspector General Michael Horowitz's report was FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith.

All three officials worked on the FBI's investigation into Clinton's use of a private email server while she was secretary of state, the initial Russia probe that involved conducting surveillance on certain members of the Trump campaign, and the Department of Justice's Russia probe spearheaded by special counsel Robert Mueller.

All three were removed from Mueller's probe when their anti-Trump messages were discovered.

According to the Times, Clinesmith sent these messages and others during his work on the aforementioned investigations:

  • "Viva le resistance."
  • "I am so stressed about what I could have done differently."

Former FBI Director James Comey and the bureau's handling of the Clinton and Russia investigations has been under intense scrutiny for nearly two years, following Comey's July 2016 announcement that he was not recommending charged be brought against Clinton for her private email usage.

The FBI reportedly had at least one informant on the Trump campaign in 2016, a recent revelation that sparked an outcry from many Trump backers.
