Ari Fleischer: Franken Should Not Have Quit

Ari Fleischer: Franken Should Not Have Quit

By    |   Thursday, 07 December 2017 02:45 PM EST

Ari Fleischer, the former press secretary to President George W. Bush, said Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., should not have resigned.

Fleischer’s comments came in a tweet posted shortly after Franken said on Thursday he would be quitting in the coming weeks.

In announcing his decision to leave the Senate, Franken had said he would continue to speak out on important issues, CNN said.

"I may be resigning my seat, but I am not giving up my voice. I will continue to stand up for the things I believe in as a citizen and as an activist."

Franken announced he was stepping down after allegations he forcibly kissed and groped a woman in 2006 and inappropriately touched others, The Hill noted.
