Rep. Burchett to Newsmax TV: MLB Moved All-Star Game to 'Woke-Atopia' Epicenter

By    |   Tuesday, 06 April 2021 02:21 PM EDT

Major League Baseball moved its All-Star Game out of Atlanta and into the epicenter of "woke-atopia" in Colorado, Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., said on Newsmax TV.

"They're moving it from a predominantly Black, working-class community in Atlanta, Georgia, to a very woke, white, hip, let’s get stoned community in Colorado," Burchett said Tuesday during an appearance on "John Bachman Now." "So I think it very clearly shows where their priorities are, where their morals are, and they're not with the average American. And it grieves me. Atlanta Braves, they are America's team, dadgummit.

"When the Burchetts' got cable TV, that's where we are, and that's where America's heart was and they just ripped it out by pulling this stunt."

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred announced last week the All-Star Game would not be played in Atlanta as scheduled due to new voting laws approved in Georgia that critics consider restrictive.

"I have decided that the best way to demonstrate our values as a sport is by relocating this year's All-Star Game and MLB Draft," Manfred said. "Major League Baseball fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans and opposes restrictions to the ballot box."

The Associated Press, ESPN, and MLB Network reported late Monday the league had settled on Colorado for the July 13 Midsummer Classic.

The new Georgia law requires voters to provide a state-issued identification card when requesting an absentee ballot, limits drop boxes, and lets any Georgian challenge the voting eligibility of an unlimited number of voters, among other restrictions. It also expands some early voting hours.

Burchett said professional baseball should be "very careful" about getting into politics.

"They're provided certain protections," Burchett told Bachman. "There's not a stadium in this country that hasn't been heavily subsidized, if not by local then by federal funds. They have antitrust protections. I think they're treading on some dangerous water and they're actually wrong.

"What they need to do is tell people at the Will Call window that you don’t have to show an ID, you can just tell people who you are. It's major hypocrisy by Major League Baseball. They don’t get it. They are misreading the American public. … I would hope the owners stand up to this nonsense and look at your base and see who pays your salaries because people are getting tired of paying these jacked-up process for spoiled brat professional athletes."
