Steve Bannon responded to President Donald Trump's blistering assault by calling the president "a great man" and saying, "I support him day in and day out."
Bannon, former White House chief strategist, made the comments on SiriusXM's "Breitbart News Tonight" show hours after the Trump administration unleashed a multi-tiered blitzkrieg of rebukes and condemnation against him for his explosive remarks in Michael Wolff's new book, "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House."
But Bannon remained nonplussed and steadfast in his support of the president.
"The President of the United States is a great man," Bannon said on Breitbart News Tonight."
"You know I support him day in and day out, whether going through the country giving the Trump Miracle Speech or on the show or on the website," Bannon said, responding to a caller.
Bannon again early Thursday reiterated his continued support of the president.
"Nothing will ever come between us and President Trump and his agenda," Bannon said on Breitbart Radio, CNN reported. "We're tight on this agenda as we've ever been."
Earlier Wednesday, the Trump machine went into high gear after excerpts started rolling out from Wolff's book, quoting Bannon that Donald Trump Jr.'s meeting with Russians was "treasonous" and that Ivanka Trump was "dumb as a brick."
Trump released a statement, saying Bannon had "lost his mind" after losing his job and diminishing his role while in the White House; Trump's legal team issued a "cease and desist" to Bannon; and the White House tore into Bannon as well, saying the president was "disgusted."
"President Trump, with the whole swamp up there, the D.C. apparatus … he is fighting every day," Bannon told another caller Wednesday night.
"And maybe things get off track, or stuff gets said, and all this heated stuff, but however, this is a guy, you voted for him, you supported him, is there any doubt in your mind he's been fighting for and working for you, the deplorables, the forgotten man and woman, the silent majority, every day he's been there?"
