Bernie Sanders of Vermont is the most popular senator in America, while Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is the least popular, according to a new Morning Consult poll.
Sanders, an independent, has a 71 percent approval rating in his home state during the third quarter of 2017, while 22 percent disapprove of his performance in office. Republican McConnell has a 33 percent approval rating in Kentucky, while 55 percent disapprove of his job performance.
Here are the most popular senators after Sanders:
- Patrick Leahy, D-Vt. -- 67 percent approval – 22 percent disapproval
- John Hoeven, R-N.D. -- 63 percent approval – 20 percent disapproval
- Susan Collins, R-Maine -- 62 percent approval – 30 percent disapproval
- Angus King, I-Maine – 61 percent approval – 27 percent disapproval
- Brian Schatz, D-Hi. – 60 percent approval – 22 percent disapproval
- Mazie Hirono, D-Hi. – 60 percent approval – 24 percent disapproval
- Amy Klobuchar—D-Minn. – 59 percent approval – 26 percent disapproval
- Ron Wyden, D-Ore. – 56 percent approval – 23 percent disapproval
- John Thune, R-S.D.—56 percent approval – 31 percent disapproval
Meanwhile, the poll noted that Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., who announced in October he would not seek re-election and has been critical of President Donald Trump, received a 33 percent approval rating in the survey taken from July 1 to Sept. 30. He is second to McConnell in unfavorable rankings.
Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., who was also critical of Trump in October and is not seeking re-election, had a 48 percent approval ranking in Tennessee and a 30 percent disapproval rating for the survey ending in September.
The poll noted approval ratings for nearly all senators went down in their homes states during the third quarter.
The poll surveyed 255,120 registered voters in 50 states from July 1-Sept. 30.
