Ian Sams, President Joe Biden’s spokesman for oversight and investigations, will leave the White House and join Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign, people familiar with the move told the Washington Post.
Sams, who will join Harris’ campaign in a senior spokesperson role, in February went on the attack against a special counsel report on Biden’s handling of classified documents that said the president presented himself as an “elderly man with a poor memory” who was unable to remember key dates.
“When the inevitable conclusion is that the facts and the evidence don’t support any charges, you’re left to wonder why this report spends time making gratuitous and inappropriate criticisms of the president,” Sams said in criticizing the report, which Republicans have used to blast the president.
Principal deputy White House Communications Director Kristen Orthman is also moving to the Harris campaign, where she will serve as senior adviser for strategic planning.
Sams worked on Harris’ 2020 presidential campaign.
