Conservative Rep. Bill Flores on Wednesday came out against bump stocks, a device the Las Vegas shooter used to convert his semi-automatic weapons to fully automatic, The Hill reported.
"I think they should be banned. There's no reason for a typical gun owner to own anything that converts a semi-automatic to something that behaves like an automatic," Flores told the Hill.
Flores, R-Texas, is a former chair of the Republican Study Conference and a gun owner.
"I have no problem from banning myself from owning it," Flores said.
Fully automatic weapons have been illegal since the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986, but bump stocks are legal to buy, a loophole Sen. Dianne Feinstein hopes to close.
The California Democrat introduced legislation Wednesday to ban bump stocks and other devices like it.
