O'Reilly: Hillary Needs to Move Center, Pick Sherrod Brown for VP

With Ohio Gov. John Kasich's sudden decision to back out of the race for the GOP nomination, it "would be very wise" for Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton to move to the center quickly, and to pick Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown as her running mate to add a "real far-left guy" to her ticket, if she expects to attract Republican votes, Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly said Wednesday.

"It's hard to say how many people will sit it out," O'Reilly said, calling in to the network's "Outnumbered" program as the news was breaking about Kasich's pending announcement. "Just as many Democrats don't like Hillary Clinton, who may not show up, as don't like Donald Trump in the conservative ranks."

It would also help, said O'Reilly, if she would come off as "reasonable, personable, not the ice queen. She could pick up some independent and disenchanted Republican votes. It is possible to do that. She has to make a move quickly."

Meanwhile, he said that Kasich's decision was not surprising, as he had not been able to raise money after his only win, in his home state's primary.

"You've got to have money to run," said O'Reilly. "He didn't have any. He is out, simply because there isn't any way to continue running a viable race. I must applaud John Kasich. I thought he was the best of all the candidates in both parties on policy. I really thought he was excellent on policy."

But it just wasn't Kasich's "time in history," O'Reilly said. "It wasn't his time in history as I told him in Detroit, wasn't real happy I said that to him but it is absolutely true."

O'Reilly also does not believe Bernie Sanders will defeat Clinton, but "he is making a symbolic run. Sanders is a little stronger than Ted Cruz because he won Indiana. It is a mystery why Hillary Clinton did not contain that state."

Trump, as the election proceeds, will work with anyone, said O'Reilly.

"Trump is a practical man, not an ideologue, not a guy who apparently holds grudges," he said. "It is easier for winners to be benevolent."

Trump will be on O'Reilly's show on Wednesday night, but the anchor said on the noon show that he won't say who is vice-presidential nominee is.

Tuesday night, O'Reilly had a list of possible cabinet picks for Trump, who he says will "probably try to get as many big Republican establishment names surrounding him before he goes to Cleveland. Among the picks: "Rudy Giuliani as homeland security director, Chris Christie as attorney general, and Ben Carson as health and human services director."

But there will be many people who won't be included and probably who won't even go to the convention, said O'Reilly, including Arizona Sen. John McCain or former GOP nominee Mitt Romney, both of whom have objected strongly to a Trump nomination.
