U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bill Taylor delivered potentially damaging testimony against President Donald Trump during the Democrats' closed-door impeachment inquiry and CNN has found three U.S. veterans who served with him to praise Taylor.

"He's a man of honor, a courageous man who has the endurance to go through all of this," retired Col. Bob Seitz, who went to West Point and served with Taylor in Vietnam, told CNN.

Seitz added Taylor embodies the U.S. Military Academy Cadet Prayer: "Make us to choose the harder right instead of the easier wrong, and never to be content with a half truth when the whole can be won."

Retired Maj. Gen. Robert St. Onge and retired Lt. Gen. Karl Eikenberry also vouched for Taylor to CNN.

"Amb. Taylor represents the best of our Department of State," Eikenberry told CNN. "His integrity and courage are the true marks of patriotism, loyal to an oath of office and never to be corrupted or intimidated by those seeking personal gain at our nation's expense."

Taylor reportedly testified to the House Committees seeking impeachment of the president that Trump administration officials pushed a quid pro quo with Ukraine, withholding roughly $390 million in military aid in exchange for a public announcement of an investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter's involvement in potential corruption in Ukraine.

"I don't know anything about his politics, I just know that he has served his country faithfully as long as I have known him," St. Onge told CNN.

"The Bill that I know is extraordinarily intelligent, he is articulate, he cares about his soldiers," he added to CNN. "He's been a public servant all the way through. I have the utmost respect for him, and count him among my dearest friends."

White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney suggested this week testimony like Taylor's comes from a Never Trump Republican who was part of a deep state working to undermine the president.

"What you're seeing now, I believe, is a group of mostly career bureaucrats who are saying: 'You know what? I don't like President Trump's politics, so I'm going to participate in this witch hunt that they're undertaking on the Hill.'"

Also, President Trump ripped Taylor as a Never Trumper and calling those who stand against the president "human scum."

"How could anyone in the White House make such terrible remarks about a veteran that has done so much for our country?" Seitz told CNN.
