Rep. Black: Repeal Obamacare, Keep Private Information Safe

By    |   Thursday, 16 May 2013 07:35 PM EDT

The current IRS scandal makes her wary of the tax-collecting agency which also will be entrusted to implement Obamacare, Rep. Diane Black, R-Tenn., says.

"This is a bad, bad choice that has been made by previous Congresses," Black said of the Affordable Care Act. Repealing the entire bill would be best, she said, but short of that she wants assurances that Americans will have protections against their private information being improperly shared, she said on Newsmax TV's "The Steve Malzberg Show."

The government is currently building a database of everyone's personal information, Black said. The Internal Revenue Service, Health and Human Services, Social Security, Homeland Security, and the Department of Justice all are feeding information into the central database.

"All this will be put into one big database, and this will be the most information that the government has ever had in one place about our personal information," she said. A bill she is currently working on will attempt to keep that information secure, she said.

Forcing acting IRS Commissioner Steven Miller to resign will do little to change things in the agency following the scandal of agents targeting conservative groups, Black said.

Americans already were distrustful of the IRS, she said. "We need to make sure that we get to the bottom of who knew, when they knew, what did they do, what action did they take, and what have they put into place to keep this from ever happening again," she said.

Black said she wanted to laugh when Obama said during his announcement of Miller's resignation that the IRS needed unambiguous laws to ensure no partisan targeting ever happens again.
