Sen. Bob Corker's tweet that the White House has "become an adult day care center" was "incredibly irresponsible," as world leaders see such things, President Donald Trump's senior counselor Kellyanne Conway said Monday.
"We've all worked with Sen. Corker over the years," Conway told Fox News' "Fox and Friends" program. "We thanked him for his service. But I find tweets like this to be incredibly irresponsible."
The arguments between Corker and Trump began early Sunday morning, when Trump bashed the Tennessee Republican on social media over his decision not to seek re-election in 2018. Corker hit with a tweet of his own:
Later in the day, Corker told The New York Times that Trump's recklessness "threatens World War III."
Conway said Monday that Corker was in the White House two weeks ago for a private meeting, and ''we are relying on Sen. Corker, but so are the people of Tennessee for him to get big things done in the remaining time of his tenure."
She added that comments such as those made by the senator on Sunday are "less helpful than saying, 'I don't like X, Y, Z, but I support the president on tax reform.'"
Conway also pointed out that conservatives "have not really forgiven Bob Corker" for the Iran nuclear deal, as "he actually passed a referendum that allowed it to pass without votes in the Senate."
"This president has said since the beginning, it's a bad deal," Conway said. "They paid blood money for these hostages. And the fact is that this president has to work with Sen. Corker."
Conway said Trump has had the "most open door policy to our senators and members of Congress that I think anybody has ever seen."
She also complained that the "mainstream media" is covering the argument between Trump and Corker and not the 70-point immigration plan the president has submitted to Congress.
Meanwhile, Conway said, Republican lawmakers finally have a president who is willing to sign into law the items they've sought for years, and "they ought to just pass a couple of things already."
