President Donald Trump and the White House are ready for an impeachment trial and are united with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and other top Republicans to fight the case, Pam Bondi, one of the White House's special advisers on impeachment, said Friday.
"We are on the same side," Bondi, a former Florida attorney general, told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" host Bill Hemmer. "You know, the president's been very clear that he wants to be heard because of these sham proceedings."
The House Judiciary Committee Friday morning approved both articles of impeachment against Trump after chairman Jerry Nadler postponed the vote late Thursday night after 14 hours of often-contentious debate.
"Look what he did at the end of the hearing," Bondi said of Nadler's move. "He wouldn't even call for a vote because he wanted to continue it into today. He deceived [Rep. Doug] Collins, he deceived all of our representatives. So that's the sham, the fake trial we've been dealing with."
McConnell Thursday night told Fox News' Sean Hannity that there is no chance Trump will be removed from office and suggested that there will only be a short trial in the Senate, but Bondi stressed that the Senate does not have the case yet.
"We probably will get there, and when we do, we are prepared for that," Bondi said. "The president, the more and more this goes on, he sees it's such a sham and a waste of the American people's time. Everyone needs to get back to work."
Trump wants to be heard, she added, but he "completely agrees with leader McConnell. We're working hand-in-hand and we will be well-prepared if and when this gets to the Senate."
Meanwhile, the continuing impeachment arguments are tough on Trump and his family, as "he did absolutely nothing wrong and he knows it," said Bondi. "When truth is on your side, that's a good thing. He will not be deterred."
