British politician Nigel Farage, who successfully led the Brexit movement that ended with the United Kingdom voting to leave the European Union, said he's "absolutely mortified" at the criticism of President-elect Donald Trump's senior adviser Steve Bannon.
During an interview Thursday with SiriusXM's Breitbart News Daily, Farage spoke about the results of last week's presidential election and the onslaught that's been directed at Trump and his team.
"I've been absolutely mortified in the last 72 hours to see a whole series of terms being used about Bannon, and then being picked up by other media commentators as being fact," Farage said. "And I do think there needs to be a serious fight-back on behalf of people that know Bannon."
Bannon, the former top executive of Breitbart News, has been accused of being, among other things, anti-Semitic.
"The idea that he's anti-Semitic is almost laughable," Farage said. "I really do believe that he wants to try and make the lives of all the Americans better. And I think he's doing this presidency for absolutely the right reasons."
Others, such as liberal defense lawyer Alan Dershowitz, don't see any evidence that Bannon is anti-Semitic.
