Rep. Brian Babin, R-Texas, would like to see the head of the Department of Justice's Russia probe appear at a public congressional hearing.
The Daily Caller obtained a copy of a letter Babin circulated to members of the House. It asks for the lawmakers to sign an additional letter on the matter that he is planning to send over to House Judiciary chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., and Senate Judiciary chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa.
Former FBI director Robert Mueller is serving as the DOJ's special counsel for its investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia. Babin wants Mueller to face questions from lawmakers about his investigation.
"Every nominee for United States Attorney must be confirmed by the Senate, a process that brings to the forefront any concerns regarding the nominee’s ability to hold their position in a decent and impartial manner," Babin's letter reads.
"However, as Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III and his team of lawyers investigate our very own president, we as a nation wait in the dark with very little information about those given this great authority."
Babin said there are "serious concerns" regarding conflicts of interest within the investigation, and he noted that the probe could cost taxpayers millions of dollars if it continues for months or years.
No one has signed onto Babin's letter yet, The Daily Caller notes.
It was recently revealed that Mueller has impaneled two grand juries — one in Washington, D.C. and one in Virginia — as he continues to probe whether anything improper occurred.
President Donald Trump has publicly denounced the Russia investigation, but has reportedly sent private messages to Mueller.
