California Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown questioned President Donald Trump's faith when it came to the issue of climate change, stating it appeared he didn't fear "the wrath of God" or the "consequences" of ignoring global warming, The Hill reported Saturday.

"I don't think President Trump has a fear of the Lord, the fear of the wrath of God, which leads one to more humility," Brown told CBS' "60 Minutes" in an interview set to air on Sunday. "This is such a reckless disregard for the truth and for the existential consequences that can be unleashed."

Brown, who studied to become a Jesuit priest, has criticized Trump and his administration's failure to embrace climate change. For those who tie man's influence on Earth's climate with global warming, the extremes seen in nature are to blame.

Southern California is currently engulfed in massive wildfires that have destroyed thousands of acres of property. Earlier this year, northern California also saw massive wildfires that took the lives of 44 people and caused massive damage.

Friday Trump responded to a request for assistance from Brown, declaring a state of emergency in California which will allow federal disaster relief efforts to the state.
