A group backing former Vice President Joe Biden's White House bid has released a new ad attacking President Donald Trump over his response to the coronavirus outbreak.

Unite the Country released a 30-second TV ad titled "Crisis Comes," which shows images of various past presidents, including Republicans Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush, along with Democrat Barack Obama in the Situation Room with Biden.

"Crisis comes to every presidency," a narrator says over the images. "We don't blame them for that. What matters is how they handle it. Donald Trump didn't create the coronavirus, but he is the one who called 'hoax,' who eliminated the pandemic response team, and who let the virus spread unchecked across America."

A spokesperson for the Trump campaign blasted Biden in a statement to CNN.

"It used to be that Americans faced national adversity with unity, but Joe Biden and his allies have abandoned that principle in favor of rank, despicable politics," Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh said.

"They offer nothing but partisan sniping from the sidelines and seek to undermine the federal response to the crisis by misinforming and frightening people," he continued, adding Trump was "referring to Democrat and media criticisms of the federal response" when he said "hoax."
