Former presidential candidate Ben Carson said he supports Donald Trump because he wants a president who "is not beholden to this corrupt system," during an appearance on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show."

Host Trevor Noah asked Carson if his stance as a "man of morals" runs counter to Trump's "inflammatory statements."

"You have to be able to prioritize," Carson answered. "I don't want to see the same status quo continue. I want an outsider who is not beholden to this corrupt system."

Carson pointed out that Trump's "You're Fired Guy," referring to Trump's role as host of the TV show, "The Apprentice," is "a persona that the American people are attracted to, and it gets you attention.

"Is that the way it should be? Probably not," Carson said, "But that's where we are as a society. We as a society, we have to reach a level of maturation." He added, "I probably shouldn't be talking about that on Comedy Central," which got a laugh from the audience.

Carson wasn't the first former presidential candidate to appear on "The Daily Show."   Lindsey Graham was interviewed in March, but had a negative view of Trump.
