The fabulous wealth in which Donald Trump's children were raised amid was actually a handicap to them, Dr. Ben Carson says.
"You know, all of the Trump children are absolutely delightful people," Carson told Fox News host Greta Van Susteren in an interview Thursday at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.
"I think that speaks volumes about the man. Anybody who can raise children, particularly in the environment they came up in which I think is a disadvantaged environment.
"Because I know a lot of people very rich and their kids are so spoiled, and I think it's a disadvantage."
The retired pediatric neurosurgeon and former GOP presidential candidate, who is supporting the billionaire real-estate tycoon for president, noted that Trump himself is whip-smart.
"You don't go from having a million-dollar loan [from your father] to becoming a billionaire in New York City without being very smart. But, also, he thinks deeply," Carson told Van Susteren.
Trump is the father of five children: Donald Jr., 38, Ivanka, 34, and Eric, 32, with his first wife, Ivana; Tiffany, 22, with his second wife, Marla; and Barron, 10, with his current wife, Melania.
